Enhance The New Library and Health Hub Entrance!

Enhance The New Library and Health Hub Entrance!

mahau Enhance The New Library and Health Hub Entrance!

Artists are invited to submit expressions of interest to produce designs for various pieces to enhance entranceway features for the new Library and Children’s Health Hub building.

The design brief is broad, but it is expected that the artist/s will respond to and reflect the vision and design philosophy of ‘Te Aka Mauri,’  embracing concepts that are both traditional and contemporary in nature.

1.  Mahau

mahau-2 Enhance The New Library and Health Hub Entrance!

The Mahau has potential for creation of the Tau Rapa, Tau Ihu, and Raparapa x2 (left and right). These features need to be fabricated from all-weather and robust materials, which may include, but are not limited to, timber, steel or polycarbonate. The finished elements will then be affixed to the existing structural beams.

2. Pare

Sitting above the main entrance doors, it is envisaged that the Pare will be carved to dimensions of 4660mm length x 500mm width. Although under cover, consideration of the elements (direct sunlight, moisture etc) is essential.  This is a carved timber piece only.

3. Poutokomanawa

The Poutokomanawa will be installed inside, immediately to the left of the main entranceway. Estimated dimensions – approx. 6,600mm height x 600mm width. Fabrication materials may include, but are not limited to polycarbonate, aluminum or fiberglass.
